Dentist Visit? Stop Before You Pop (The Vein)
A simple cleaning seems harmless, but dental work releases oral bacteria into your bloodstream (transient bacteremia).
The Rules
- Cleaning/Filling: Wait 24 hours. By then, your immune system has cleared the bacteria.
- Extraction/Root Canal: Wait 72 hours (3 days). This allows for healing and ensures no secondary infection has set in.
- Viral Infection: If you had a gum infection or abscess, wait until 7 days after completing your antibiotics.
