Blood Pressure and Donation: Finding the Safe Zone
Your blood pressure is one of the first things checked at a donation camp. Both high (Hypertension) and low (Hypotension) readings can lead to deferral.
The Eligible Range
According to Indian standards, your BP must fall within these limits:
- Systolic (Upper): 100 to 160 mmHg
- Diastolic (Lower): 60 to 90 mmHg
Taking Medication?
Yes, you can still donate! Taking daily tablets for hypertension (like Amlodipine, Telmisartan, etc.) does NOT disqualify you, as long as:
- Your BP is stable and within the safe range on the day of donation.
- You have not changed your dosage significantly in the last 4 weeks.
Safety Warning: If your BP is too low (<100/60), donating blood could cause severe fainting or shock. If it's too high (>160/90), it puts stress on your heart. We defer you for your own safety.
