LGBTQ+ Donation: The Fight for Inclusivity
This is a controversial and evolving topic. Current Indian regulations (and many global ones) have strict deferrals for "Men who have Sex with Men" (MSM).
The Current Stance
Under National Blood Transfusion Council (NBTC) guidelines, MSM are categorized as "high risk" for HIV/Hepatitis and are permanently deferred. This applies regardless of condom use or monogamy.
The Future
Activists and medical bodies are advocating to move to "Individual Risk Assessment"—where you are asked about *unsafe* behaviors, not your sexual orientation. Until the law changes, we must follow the NBTC rules to maintain our license.
