Had Malaria or Dengue? When You Can Return

Had Malaria or Dengue? When You Can Return

Malaria & Dengue: The Recovery Clock

Mosquito-borne diseases infiltrate the blood itself, making specific deferral periods critical for recipient safety.

Dengue

Once you are fully recovered and your platelet counts are normal, you must wait 6 months before donating. This ensures no viral remnants remain.

Malaria

Malaria parasites can hide in the liver for a long time. The standard wait is 3 months after full recovery. However, if you are a visitor from a non-malaria country who got infected, the deferral might be 3 years in international standards. In India, the 3-month rule is standard.
