Post-Donation Care: Do's and Don'ts

Post-Donation Care: Recover Like a Pro

You've done the good deed! Now, take care of yourself to ensure you feel great for the rest of the day.

Immediate (First 15 Minutes)

  • Relax in the observation area. Do not rush to stand up.
  • Drink the provided juice and eat the cookie (the sugar helps prevent a crash).

The Next 4 Hours

  • Keep the Bandage: Keep the strip bandage on for at least 4 hours to prevent bruising.
  • Hydrate: Drink an extra liter of water today.
  • No Heavy Lifting: Avoid the gym, heavy grocery bags, or strenuous exercise. Your arm needs rest.
  • No Smoking/Drinking: Wait 3 hours for smoking and 6+ hours for alcohol.

If You Feel Dizzy

Stop what you are doing. Sit or lie down immediately (don't try to "walk it off"). Raise your legs to help blood flow to your brain. You will feel better in minutes.
